3 Reasons Why You Should Study in Jogja

I have never regretted for choosing Yogyakarta (commonly called as ‘Jogja’) as the city where I need to live in for these recent two and half years. To be here is so great. Amid the stressful words my friends always tweet from the western part of the island (Jakarta, Bandung, and the surrounding cities) about all the hassles in their life there. Jogja is almost a safe haven.

The narrative would even be more interesting when it actually comes to a college student like me. It’s an open secret that most of college students are living in a budget. In a city with low-average price of food like Jogja, you can’t blame yourself for getting some more kilograms added into your weight very quickly.

This very story is about to tell you why choosing Yogyakarta as your destination city for study would not end up as a regret.

1. There Are Plenty of Choices in The City

The first thing you might put in your consideration must be about the study itself. Seriously, you don’t need to worry about it! Have you heard that Jogja is also often called as “Kota Pelajar”? “Kota Pelajar” means student city. The name is given to the city because Jogja is very populous with students from all around Indonesia, even the world! Of course this is also because Jogja has so many universities to study at. Whether your choice is public or private university, you have plenty of choices in your hand. The faculty and major are also varied, starts from school of engineering, medical, liberal Arts, natural science, and many others, you name it!

     2. Friendly Place for Student’s Budget

As I stated in the beginning of the story, compare to other cities that commonly become destination for study, the foods in Jogja are very cheap!  In less than 10.000 Rupiah (less than 1 USD) you can get one solid set of meal (some of them even already include the drink). There are also various foods that you can try in Jogja. You know what my friends from Jakarta and Bandung would always say every time they visit Jogja? “Oh my God! Everything is so cheap in here!! Wonder why the students are looking healthy!"

     3. Cut The Distance for Your Holiday

Jogja is also a famous destination for holiday. Every time it comes to holiday, Jogja always gets crowded with many local and international tourists. Besides its traditional culinary, Jogja also has many tourism sites that make almost everyone who comes to Jogja would love to explore. By studying and staying in Jogja, you can cut the distance, time, and budget estimation for your own holiday, especially for a short one. No need to book an airplane ticket to Jogja, simply because you’re already living in that city. And one thing for sure, you will not have to get into too many crowds, because you can come visit them anytime within the regular months like in the weekend which usually not many people from outside of the city would like to spend their time to go out too far.

It is so much fun to be here! :)
